Hiromi Asai, born in Tokyo. In University, she studied traditional Japanese theater and its fashion. To furthre acquire skills and knowledge about the kimono, she learned kimono styling/dressing and traditional Japanese dressmaking at the kimono fashion academy. She became a certified master kimono instructor and started working as a kimono stylist.


After Hiromi came to New York City in 2008, she started her business as Kimono Hiro in NY. Then she founded Mode & Classic LLC in 2010. Mode & Classic LLC is now recognized as a prominent kimono styling company in the United States as well as a company for Hiromi-desigeed brand, HIROMI ASAI.

Her activity first attracted attention in the United States, as the interview appeared in The New York Times ("Wrestling the silk" in April, 2009) and the opinion about kimono fashion was published in The International Herald Tribune / New York Times ("Liberate the kimono" in March, 2011).


Hiromi Asai created various fashion & art pieces featuring kimono for advertisements (Verizon Wireless in 2009), fashion magazines (i-D Magazine and Vogue Germany in 2012, and Exhibition Magazine in 2014), and TV programs. Hiromi Asai also produced kimono fashion shows and demonstrations all over the world, including at Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam and The Museum of World Culture in Gothenburg, Sweden in 2011; Miami Beach Botanical Garden in 2015, and Museum of Discovery and Science in Fort Lauderdale, FL in 2015 and 2016. The collaboration in the art field was accomplished with a visual artist and photographer, Laurie Simmons, to create a film: Geisha Song (February, 2011) and a series of photos: The Love Doll (August and October, 2011).


Furthremore, Hiromi Asai attended New York Fashion Week F/W 2016 as an official designer and presented her collection, collaborated with Kimnmo Artisan Kyoto, in Frbuary, 2016. This was the world first kimono fashion show at New York Fashion Week.
